Meet Mary Mulari
After years of searching for the right job, Mary Mulari discovered it at her fingertips. Always an avid sewer, Mary found her niche designing appliques, writing creative sewing books, and teaching. While attending a local craft festival in 1982, Mary recalls, "I noticed several decorated sweat shirts at the show and realized how valuable those soft, warm garments are in our wardrobes." She experimented with sweatshirt decorations and began teaching a class on her discoveries for local community education. Since then, she has been teaching a class on her ideas at seminars around the United States and in Canada, and publishing books.Designer Sweatshirts, her first book, proved to be so successful that in 1984 Mary published a second book, Applique Design Collection (Both books out of print and no longer available). These were followed by seven other books:
- More Designer Sweatshirts (no longer available),
- Country Style Appliques (no longer available),
- Adventure in Applique,
- Accents for Your Style,
- Designer Wearables and Gifts (no longer available),
- Deluxe Designs (no longer available),
- Travel Gear & Gifts to Make (no longer available)
Each book features her own hand lettering and illustrations.
Her decorating techniques now are presented on a variety of garments and accessories as well as sweatshirts. Mary published the following books with the Chilton Book Company.
- Sweatshirts with Style (no longer available)

TESTIMONIAL: "I thoroughly enjoyed your program on the Creative Machine Cruise. Besides your great ideas, yours was the neatest, most precise, and best organized presentation I've ever seen. I loved your input on woman's self worth. Your message is one that is often needed and too seldom heard." -- B.P.
