Faux Sewing

Header

Are you like me? Just can’t stay away from a sewing machine? Here I am at the thrift shop just pretending to sew.

Sew, Eat Smart, Yoga, Repeat…

Header

Here’s a knit tunic I really did sew at the Sewing Retreat at Our Sisters of Humility Retreat Center in Wheatland Iowa. My fellow “thread magnets” were Rita Farro, Rhonda Pierce, and Deanna Springer. The tunic is from Team Nancy Zieman’s latest McCall’s pattern M7871. www.nancyzieman.com/blog/sewing-2/new-mccalls-m7871-tunic-and-dress-pattern/ Here’s our group with our yoga instructor…just to show we did take some breaks from sewing.

What’s Impwear?

Header

I made this set of Possibility Bags to show off Impwear laminated fabric and Gutermann threads. The pattern is found in my book TRAVEL GEAR MADE EASY. (Find a special book offer below)The zipper is really easy to sew so you don’t have to fear the process. Wait till you touch Impwear fabric! It’s soft and yet water repellant…perfect for small travel bags, totes, and more. Tracy at Impwear is offering a special discount to you, my newsletter readers. When you place an order at impwearhome.com, type in MM20 to get a 20% discount on your purchase! Make sure to thank her for this great offer!

More About Reversible Aprons

Header

If you’ve been reading this newsletter and keeping up with my fabric designs, you know that I’ve had two fabric collections with both the Church Ladies and Chatterbox Aprons printed on a fabric panel. Now there’s a new one, the Crisscross Apron, shown here in two colorways. Notice that the sewing instructions are also printed directly on the fabric. See the panels offered as a kit below. Each kit includes an extra yard and a fat quarter of coordinating fabric so you can make a reversible apron. This panel is from Penny Rose fabrics.

Make a Cool Hipster Apron

Header

Have you tried this pattern? It’s such a distinctive shape, with good reasons. The “wings” wrap around the hips and give you a convenient place to wipe your hands when you’re at work. Yes, I know you do that! A narrower apron skirt allows for movement without restriction. Consider this pattern for a man, using a straight across top edge, or the V-shape edge. You’ll find a special offer below for this apron pattern, which is my newest offering.

Just a Hint…

Header

I’m at work at a new pattern but I can’t tell you about it yet. This photo gives a hint that it will have something to do with three T-shirts. Watch for an announcement when it’s ready.

Charm Squares, Anyone?

Header

If you are a seamster/sewist/quilter it would be safe to predict you own a few 5” charm squares. They’re small but they’re hard to resist because they’re so cute. Check out the 15 fun and clever projects in my newest book ADVENTURES WITH 5-INCH FABRIC SQUARES. Recruit a child to join you in sewing a few accessories with charm squares. You’ll see a special offer below. (The book is dedicated to the memory of our sewing friend Nancy Zieman and you’ll see squares and projects from her fabric collection too.)

Sewing Tip: Cracklin’ Elastic

Header

Here’s what I’ve learned:

It’s easy to collect elastic and ignore it until you need a length for a garment or special project. Then, you could be surprised to find that when you tug on the elastic, it crackles and doesn’t spring back to its original shape and length. That means it’s old and should be discarded. So my advice is to check your elastic collection to make sure it still stretches (without sound effects!) and returns to its pre-stretched length. You may need to refresh your collection with new elastic.
