Mary’s October 2016 News
Autumn Leaves Fall onto New Ideas from Mary Mulari!
Greetings for the new season! It’s my favorite and I wish it lasted longer with all the leaf color and mild/cool days. Instead of my usual flower picture to start off my newsletter, I’d like to share a cheerful stack of pancakes from a summer breakfast at the Tower Cafe.
What’s New at Mary’s Productions? There’s a LOT…
In August I taped two Sewing With Nancy programs titled “Second Chance T-Shirt Gifts.” We started off with the world’s easiest, most practical, and washable T-Shirt Memory Quilt.
Here you see it being prepared for display for the TV cameras.
Many more projects featured the special t-shirts every family collects. I call it repurposing with style. The pattern that serves as the programs’ reference is also called SECOND CHANCE T-SHIRT GIFTS and the good news: It’s now available, hot off the press! Read more about it at http://marymulari.com/
Also new in September is another fabric collection featuring my Chatterbox Apron. Here’s a sample of one of the colourways. Of course it’s reversible so you can feature another fabric from the collection on the other side. http://www.rileyblakedesigns.com/chatterbox-aprons-cottons
In an earlier newsletter I promised an announcement in August and that is a book just published—BEST SWEATSHIRT MAKEOVERS.
It’s a compilation of 5 of my skinny sweatshirt books so it’s 116 pages full of instructions, illustrations, full size applique designs, and photos. There’s a new gallery of sweatshirts that were made after the original books were printed and 56 sweatshirt transformations for adults and kids. Summer Vacation Report
I hope you enjoyed your summer and found some time to sew too. I spent the month of June as a city dweller in Helsinki, Finland. We rented a flat in the center of the city and learned how to use public transportation, visited relatives and celebrated the Midsummer holiday in Nordic style. At the Esplanade Park, Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama wrapped 30 trees in polka dot fabric. Very festive and fun!
Where is Mary teaching this fall?
Here’s where I taught in September.
It was my first time to teach at Nashua Sew & Vac in Nashua NH and at Blaine’s Sewing in Cranston RI. In October I taught at Aurora Sewing Center in East Aurora NY and fabrics etcetera in Webster TX.
November 3 I’ll be at All Brands Servicenter in Richmond VA and Quilts & Lace in Melbourne FL on December 10. You’ll find the store phone numbers on my website in the listing https://www.marymulari.com/seminars. It would be great to meet you at one of these events! Let me know if you learned about my seminar
through this newsletter. And by the way, I’m open to scheduling more 2017 seminar events. Do you know a store I should contact? Or a sewing guild?
My Sewing Tip
Have you tried the new mini version of Wonder Clips? They have a narrower, more pointed end and they’re terrific for holding together mitered corners or edging trim on the travel laundry bag I made for my niece Sarah’s birthday. Add these clips to the standard and large-size clips also made by Clover. (Without realizing it, I washed one of the standard red clips in the washer. Nothing bad happened and the clip works fine…but I don’t think machine laundering is recommended!)
Enjoy the process of your fall stitching and holiday gift making. If you choose to make any of my projects, let me know what you’re making. I’m always interested to hear how and if my instructions and television appearances inspire other seamsters.
