Summer 2018 – Hello from Aurora Minnesota!
As usual, summer is speeding by and here in the northwoods, there are hints of cooler weather coming. My neon green garden chair holds a flower planter that looked great in May but overgrown at the end of July! Here’s hoping you’re finding time to enjoy this season.
Apron Pattern Revel
It’s always fun to start off with something new. This time it’s my Hipster Apron pattern. The apron has a unique shape with “wings” wrapping around the hips to the back. The narrower lower front of the body doesn’t bind or restrict movement when you’re taking big steps. The ties wrap around from the back to the front. You have a choice of necklines: v-neck, scoop, or straight across. As usual, the apron is reversible and requires two 1 yard lengths of fabric. See the special offer at the end of the newsletter.
Focus on Threads
One of my summer projects is creating ways to use and show off thread. Here are two mini aprons that you’ll be seeing in social media posts from A & E Threads. Both aprons have topstitching with decorative stitches. I love to find reasons to use decorative stitches—sometimes we forget that we have so many options on our machines. You’ll see the apron pattern and instructions in my book ADVENTURES WITH 5-INCH FABRIC SQUARES.
NZ blog highlights
Team Nancy Zieman continues to feature my books and patterns as shown on Sewing With Nancy. The recent blog posts show the projects from Second Chance T-Shirt Gifts and also a blog post dedicated to the Hipster apron.

Taking Over Shoe Space
My sewing room hint for this newsletter is a storage tip. I know it’s not new for many of you, but I enjoy using this clear pocket shoe holder on the back of my sewing room door. It holds many things and it’s so easy to find what I’m looking for. I also appreciate being able to use the back of the door for one more place to store supplies.
Where’s Mary Teaching?
In May I was a featured speaker at Nancy’s Notions Sewing Weekend. Here you see me with two loyal attendees and me in my Hipster apron! Here are my fall seminar events and there may be more to come. Will I see you at any of these stores?

Here’s Erika at The Hive, Aurora’s newest eatery. She’s wearing the Crisscross Apron made from a new, supple, and better version of oilcloth from impwearhome.com
Here I am with Jack, my fifth grade pen pal. I’m one of the “seniors” recruited for handwritten correspondence with an elementary school class. Jack’s had an exciting experience this summer when Washington Capitals hockey player/local boy Matt Niskanen brought the Stanley Cup to northern Minnesota.
It’s LAST CALL – LAST CHANCE for these two apron panel kits I’ve offered previously in this newsletter. They’re not included on my website so this is your best chance to get a kit. Stock is low so act fast. Each kit includes the printed apron panel with sewing instructions, one yard and one fat quarter of coordinating fabrics, and my handwritten tip sheet of additional creative ways to make these reversible aprons. See how to order below:
I hope you’ll keep reading and sharing this newsletter. I appreciate your interest in my creative sewing publications and my teaching appearances. Will I meet you at one of my upcoming events?
Stay cool and keep sewing!
Cheers to you,
